Smallville Tv Series?
Smallville is a show that started in the fall of 2001on
the WB network, and it follows the life of Clark Kent in the
years before he became known as Superman. It is another in
a long line of shows about Superman’s life and exploits,
but Smallville sets itself apart because it focuses more on
Clark’s teenage years. The casting and writing are great,
which has led to the show’s popularity both in the US
and abroad.
In the role of Clark Kent is Tom Welling, and as we all know,
Clark is a holdover from the dead planet of Krypton. His spaceship
landed in a rural American “everytown”, Smallville,
which is a fictional town in Kansas. Clark is discovered and
ends up being raised by Martha and Jonathan Kent as a son.
Unlike some other Superman-themed shows, Clark isn’t
the only one who has been blessed with powers because of Krypton’s
remnants. He has to keep his identity and his powers a secret
while fighting crime and injustice. Smallville tells of the
friendship between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, and of Clark’s
relationships with Lana Lang and Chloe Sullivan.
Smallville was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar,
and the show has been nominated for (and has earned) various
awards, including one for Best Network Television Series.
The show is made better by a very talented cast, who have
won individual awards- such as Michael Rosenbaum’s for
Best Supporting Actor, and one for Tom Welling for Choice
Breakout Star.
Another thing that makes Smallville such a neat show is its
skillful use of guest casting. For example, Lynda Carter (of
Wonder Woman fame) starred on the sixth season’s eighteenth
episode, as Chloe Sullivan’s mother, Moira. Carter’s
guest position on the show gives credence to the rumor that
other Justice League superheroes are being woven into Smallville’s
plot. (The Green Arrow played a part in season six’s
11th episode). This rumored storyline increased ratings for
the show.
Seasons 1-7 are available on DVD, and it follows Clark as
he falls for Lana (played by Kristin Kreuk). In the first
season, he meets and befriends Lex Luthor. He has a hard time
accepting his powers and the fact that he’s not “normal",
but he slowly gets used to being a superhero. He has help,
in the form of Supergirl (played by Laura Vandervoort).
