Movie Download
If you’d like to know how to download YouTube videos, you
should know that unless the video comes with a download link,
it’s against YouTube’s TOS to do it. Now that the disclaimer’s
out of the way, we’ll go over some of the applications that
will allow you to grab YouTube videos and then begin the process
of conversion.
Most of the below websites and apps just grab the videos
in Flash (FLV) format. To watch these on your PC, you’ll need
an FLV player, or you’ll need to convert the video into another
format that can be viewed with a media player or on a device.
Some of these tools have a built-in FLV player and a converter-
choose from the list, according to your needs. If you download
a lot of videos, you should consider one of the premium applications.
• KeepVid: a simple and absolutely free app that isn’t as
inundated with ads as some of the free downloaders and applications
are. All you do is to copy and paste the URL of the video
you want, and you’ll have the choice of mp4 or FLV formats.
• Downloader9: Like KeepVid, you can copy and paste a video
URL. This site, however, generates a download link for an
FLV file. You’ll need to rename the file to ______.FLV and
have an FLV to view the movies.
• Easy YouTube Video Downloader: It’s a Firefox extension
that adds a download button to the YouTube page itself. You
can also convert FLV to mp4 and 3gp.
• Vixy: it offers download capability in these formats: .mov,
AVI, mp4, mp3, and 3gp. It is fairly easy to use, and not
laden with ads like some free apps.
• Desktop YouTube Downloader: is a paid app with a fifteen-day
trial, and it comes with a lot of features (such as an FLV
player so that you can watch the videos without converting
them). If you want to convert files, this app does it, to
the .wmv, MPEG and 3gp formats.
This isn’t a complete list by any stretch of the imagination-
there are a lot of sites and applications with features and
usage methods that were identical to the ones we listed. We
avoided the higher-cost applications, but we did include a
few paid apps. There are probably a lot of sites that we don’t
know about yet, and the number is growing by the day.
