Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California on
February 11, 1969. She grew up in New York City, and her parents,
John Aniston and Nancy Dow, are actors as well. Her father
is of Greek descent, born on the island of Crete, and her
mom is of Scottish/Italian ancestry, born in New York City.
Jennifer has two half-brothers, John Melick and Alex Aniston.
Telly Savalas, her dad's best friend, was her godfather. She
lived in Greece for a time as a child, but relocated to NYC
later. John Aniston has appeared on Days of Our Lives, Love
of Life, and Search for Tomorrow. Jennifer attended the New
York Rudolph Steiner School, and she went to the Fiorello
H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and the Performing
Arts. For years, she worked in off-Broadway shows, and supported
herself by working as a waitress, telemarketer, and a bike
messenger. In 1989, Jennifer Aniston moved to LA to pursue
her acting career.
After she got to Hollywood, she was cast in the series Molloy
(1990). She also starred in a television adaptation of the
movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which was canceled. She appeared
on two other short-lived comedies, Muddling Through and The
Edge. Aniston guest starred on Burke's Law, Herman's Head,
and Quantum Leap. In 1992, she starred in the universally
panned horror movie Leprechaun. That failure made her consider
giving up acting for good, but an audition for Friends made
her change her mind. She was originally set for the role of
Monica Geller, but show staff decided that Courteney Cox was
a better fit for the role. Cast as Rachel Green, she held
that role until the show ended in 2004.
In addition to her huge success on Friends, Jennifer Aniston
is an accomplished film actress as well. Her biggest box office
draw was her role in the Jim Carrey film Bruce Almighty. She
starred opposite Ben Stiller in Along Came Polly, and she
also had a role in Friends With Money (shown at the Sundance
Film Festival). Her next film after that, The Breakup, grossed
almost forty million dollars in its first weekend but had
weak reviews. In 2007, she reunited with Courteney Cox in
her show Dirt, as Tina Harrod. Jennifer is not only a great
actress, she is a director- she directed a hospital-set short
film called Room 10 with Kris Kristofferson and Robin Wright
Penn. She is also involved in various charities and causes-
she's not just a great actress and a pretty face!
