Hilary Duff
Hilary Duff was born in Houston, Texas on September 28,
1987. She has an older sister named Haylie, and her parents
are Susan Cobb and Robert Duff. Both girls are actresses and
singers, and their mom encouraged them both to take acting
classes from a very early age. Their work earned them roles
in a few local theater shows, and when Hilary was six and
Haylie eight, they won roles in the Columbus Ballet's production
of the Nutcracker. After that, Hilary knew she wanted to be
a performer and Susan and the girls moved to California while
Robert Duff stayed behind in Houston to run the family's convenience
store business. After a few years in California and numerous
auditions, Hilary and her sister got roles in a few TV commercials.
Her early TV career was full of bit parts, starting with
an appearance in True Women in 1997. She also had a role as
an extra in Playing by Heart (1998). Her first starring movie
role was in 1998's Casper Meets Wendy, in the role of Wendy.
In 1999, she appeared in a supporting role in the TV film
The Soul Collector (based on a Kathleen Kane book). She won
a Young Artist Award for that role.
Hilary's first big TV role came when she was cast as one
of the kids on the NBC comedy Daddio in 2000. Even her costars
said she'd be famous, because she was so at ease with herself.
However, she was dropped from the cast before the first episode
aired, and that discouraged her a little. Her mom and her
manager encouraged her to go on acting, and a week later,
she auditioned for (and won) the lead role on the Disney Channel
show Lizzie McGuire. In the title role, Hilary Duff played
a sweet but clumsy girl just entering middle school and teenage
life.
After her success on Lizzie McGuire, she went on to star
in movies like Agent Cody Banks (opposite Frankie Muniz),
a Lizzie McGuire film, and her most popular release, Cheaper
by the Dozen, with Bonnie Hunt and Steve Martin. Hilary Duff
is also a great singer, with her album Metamorphosis going
multi-platinum. She also owns clothing, furniture and fragrance
collections aimed at teen and preteen girls. Hilary Duff is
multitalented, and her variety of talents will ensure her
fame for years to come.
