Grey's Anatomy Tv Series
Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama, set in an American hospital.
It closely follows the lives of residents, doctors and interns
in the completely fictional Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital.
In the pilot episode, titled “A Hard Day’s Night", which
aired first in 2005, the stage was set for five more seasons-
with the sixth season beginning on Sept. 24 of 2009. Various
reliable sources have said that the cast has signed on for
at least two more seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, meaning that
we’ll be able to enjoy new episodes until at least 2012.
The show has garnered a lot of popular success, and even
more critical acclaim. It had humble beginnings as a mid-season
replacement for the show Boston Legal, but the first episode
aired to over sixteen million viewers, and the finale of the
first season was seen by over twenty two million people. Grey’s
Anatomy has also won two Golden Globes and two Emmys, and
it continues to be one of the most widely watched TV series
in prime time.
Like we said, the cast of characters includes interns, residents,
and doctors who mentor them. The cast is very racially diverse,
which is part of what makes the show so popular. The main
five
interns are Meredith Grey's , Alex Karey, George O’ Malley, Izzie
Stevens, and Cristina Yang. They all started at the bottom,
and became residents after one year in the surgical internship.
Things are complicated by chief of surgery Richard Webber,
who we learn had a romantic relationship with Meredith Grey’s
mother when Meredith was a young girl.
The show has not been without its fair share of controversy,
with a 2006 on-set altercation between stars Isaiah Washington,
Patrick Dempsey and T.R. Knight ending in a slur about T.R.
Knight’s sexual orientation. Washington apologized for the
remark, but the damage was done- ABC chose not to renew his
contract. Other storylines center on the romantic relationship
between two women, so this show is groundbreaking in more
ways than one. However, recently ABC has minimized this plot
line, to the outrage of some gay activists.
Grey’s Anatomy is a great show, and its racially and romantically
diverse cast allows more people to identify with it. As we
said, it’s slated to continue through 2012, so you can expect
plenty more plot twists from the doctors and other staff of
Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital
