Days Of Our Lives Tv Series
Days of our Lives is another American soap opera, and it
has aired almost every weekday since November 8, 1965 on NBC.
It is now in syndication in countries around the world, and
also on the Soapnet network in the United States (where it
airs at 6 and 11 pm). Days of our Lives was created by Ted
& Betty Corday and Irna Phillips in 1964. Most of the
earliest storylines were written by William J. Bell, however.
As of now, Days of our Lives is NBC’s only daytime drama,
and the only other daytime show besides Today. It is the third-longest-running
soap in the US, and it ranks 4th in the number of episodes
in existence.
The creators took the idea of a hospital-centered soap, as
was popular at the time, and combined it with a focus on a
family full of doctors. Various plot lines follow their lives,
from the fictional central US town of Salem. The usual themes
of marriage and divorce, family drama, love, and betrayal
blend with medical and psychological drama. The characters
on this show are definitely not shy about saying what’s on
their mind.
The show has won a lot of critical acclaim because it doesn’t
rely heavily on the past, unlike other daytime dramas. Critics
like it because it tells the stories of regular American families.
It has also dealt with themes that a lot of other shows just
didn’t want to touch, such as interracial dating. And, two
of its stars (Bill and Susan Hayes) met in 1970 and were married
four years later, with the wedding being covered by newspapers
and soap operas alike.
As the years progressed, the show started dealing with supernatural
storylines, which met with some resistance from critics- because
characters were repeatedly coming back from the dead and it
was becoming rather unbelievable. In spite of that, it has
received a lot of critical acclaim, winning a Daytime Emmy
for Best Drama and a Writers’ Guild award for Best drama.
Some of the actors have won awards, such as Macdonald Carey,
Susan Flannery, Suzanne Rogers, and Tamara Braun.
As is the case with a lot of other soaps, ratings have gone
down since the nineties. In January of 2007, NBC suggested
that the show may not continue past 2009, but the network
decided to renew it through September of 2010.
