House Tv Series
House is an American medical drama that got its start on
the Fox television network on November 16, 2004. The show
had two co-creators: David Shore and Paul Attanasio, but Fox
only officially credits Shore. The show centers around Dr.
Gregory House, who is played by the acerbic Hugh Laurie. House
is a highly unorthodox doctor, and he is the head of a team
of doctors at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, which
is in a fictional part of New Jersey. Paul Attanasio is generally
credited with the show’s original theme, while Shore
is the one who came up with the concept for House’s
character. It’s filmed mostly in Century City, CA.
On the show, House can usually be found arguing with his
boss, Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (who’s played
by Lisa Edelstein) and the rest of the doctors on his team.
He has amazing insight into the problems of his patients,
but most of his theories are pretty controversial. The only
one who’s always on his side is oncology head Dr. James
Wilson (played by Robert Sean Leonard). The rest of the doctors
on House’s team are Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison),
Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer), and Omar Epps’ Dr.
Eric Foreman. At the end of season 2, the team broke up, with
only Foreman and House remaining. House picks three new doctors-
Dr. Chris Taub, Dr. Lawrence Kutner, and Dr. Remy Hadley.
Kutner was written out at the end of season 5. Chase and Cameron
keep appearing on the show until the beginning of season 6,
when Cameron exits.
House has enjoyed both critical and popular acclaim. It has
been among the top ten shows in the entire country from its
second to its fourth seasons, and in the ‘08-’09
season, it dropped to 19th overall. It is in syndication to
sixty-six countries, making it the world’s most watched
TV show of 2008. The show has won a few awards, such as a
People’s Choice, a Peabody, two Golden Globes, and three
primetime Emmys. The sixth season is ongoing, having begun
on Sept. 21, 2009.
House’s use of Vicodin to treat an old leg injury (for
which he also uses a cane) leads to his addiction to the drug.
In the first-season episode “Detox”, House admits
he has a problem, but says that the pills help him fulfill
his duties as a doctor. The show is not without its share
of controversy, but that’s what keeps people watching.
